FAQ

Q:  What do I need to sell/buy a semi-auto pistol, revolver, or lower receiver to/from someone?
A:
The seller will need to bring the firearm for verification as well as provide an ID.  The buyer will need to be 21 or over and bring his/her Colorado ID (with a current address).  If the address is not current or ID is out-of-state, buyer will need a supplementary form of identification (see below) proving Colorado Residency for at least the past 3 months.

Q:  What do I need to sell/buy a rifle or shotgun to/from someone?
A:
The seller will need to bring the firearm for verification as well as provide an ID.  The buyer will need to be 18 or over and bring his/her ID (with current address).

Q:  Will you transfer a pistol with a “pistol brace” ?

A:  As of January 31st, 2023, ATF Final Rule 2021R-08F, “Factoring Criteria For Firearms with Attached Stabilizing Braces” has gone into effect.  I will no longer transfer ANY pistol with a pistol brace. The inclusion of a pistol brace most likely classifies the firearm as an SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) requiring one of the following options:
Remove the stabilizing brace (can NOT fall under
constructive possession)

Remove and replace short barrel with 16″+ barrel

                 Register as an NFA firearm

Turn in firearm to the ATF

                 Destroy the firearm

I do not deal in NFA firearms and can not transfer a SBR in any capacity.

Q:  Do you accept my ID from the “MyColorado App”?

A:  As per the latest communication from the CBI:  “The CBI Instacheck Unit is now accepting digital IDs from the MyColorado application as they have been confirmed to be secure and verifiable.  The ID must be from the app and not a screenshot or photograph of the ID.”

I will require you to open and access the App in my presence.

Q:  What qualifies as supplementary identification?
A:
Valid forms of supplementary identification must be government issued documents that include the holders current address and can not be expired.  Common examples accepted in Colorado are as follows:  Colorado Vehicle Registration, Hunting/Fishing License (indicating resident), Voter Registration Card (find/update it here), Property Tax Notice (with City Seal) for current year, City/County Utility Bill (ex:  Broomfield Water, Denver Water, Longmont Water  (with City Seal),  Colorado Concealed Carry Permit –  some counties do not include address information thus this can not be accepted.

Q: Do these documents qualify as supplementary identification?
     — Cable, Telephone, Xcel, United Power Bill
     — Tax Returns
     — Rental Lease
A: No. See previous question for valid documents.

Q: Can I take my firearm home the same day we complete the Federal paperwork?

A: No.  As of October 1st 2023, Colorado’s 3-day waiting period (HB23-1219went into effect.  Three days must pass from the time the background check is completed before transfer of possession can take place.

Q: Can I purchase a rifle or shotgun in Colorado if I am a California resident?
A:
No. Residents of California can only be transferred a firearm in the state of California. (CA Pen. Code 12072.C & 12048(d)(7)(A)).  The firearm would have to be shipped to a CA FFL for transfer to the buyer in CA.

Q:  What will it cost me to transfer a firearm?
A:
The total cost will be $70.  There will be an additional $20 for each additional firearm processed in the same transaction.  This includes the current $12.50 CBI background check fee imposed by Colorado.
               Ex: 1 firearm = $70
                      2 firearms = $90
                      3 firearms = $110

Q:  Do I still have to pay if I get a denial?
A:
The full fee + additional firearm fee is due regardless of background check outcome.  If a denial verdict is overturned and new background check is required, a new charge of $35 will apply to re-submit paperwork for the same firearm.   If there are additional firearms to be transferred in this transaction, the $20 each additional will still apply.

Q:  Do you ship firearms out of state?
A:   Yes, I ship via FedEx & USPS.  I charge a flat fee of $60 for a single firearm + shipping charges.  I can usually provide a box and packing material for no additional charge.

Q:  What forms of payment do you accept?
A:
I accept all major Credit Cards, Debt Cards, Cash, Check, & Bitcoin.

I do not accept PayPal or Venmo as they explicitly do not do business with firearm related businesses.
